The drilling rig, purchased in Houston, with its advanced technology would enable the directional well drilling in Cabimas field, which is located within the city, to take advantage of the existing locations of the mixed enterprise. “This new campaign includes the execution of 2D and 3D seismic surveys in Cabimas Field and its Eastern Extension. This is the first time that a seismic survey is executed in Cabimas streets, which will improve the geological model and the delimitation of reservoirs” he added. These seismic surveys will be carried out by Suelopetrol’s Seismic Division.

Alejandro Vicentini, Suelopetrol’s Finance and Administration Vice President, explained that this adjudication means the strengthen of the Drilling and Workover Services business area, which already had as previous experience its activities as partner in Deutag Petrol de Perforaciones. “Between 1998 and 2000, in Cabimas Field 49 wells were drilled and 68 workover and, more recently, in 2005 the last 3 wells were drilled. Deutag Petrol also drilled oilwells for Sincor in the Orinoco Belt” he indicated.

On the other hand, Freddy Chiquito, TSC manager, informed that the drilling rig activities in Cabimas will start with the perforation of three wells targeting Eocene B Superior Sands that will increase the production of 21° API crude oil, which will compensate the reservoir declining and will increase the potential of Western Division, a priority goal of Petroleos de Venezuela.

In Cabimas Field, Suelopetrol has started the recruiting process of capable Venezuelan personnel, consisting of technicians and engineers of the Zulia State contributing with the human talent and the sustainable development of the area, for the benefit of the Zulia and Venezuelan family in general, thanks to the creation of numerous jobs.

The IDEAL 75 drilling rig reached Venezuelan port and complied with all requirements for its entrance and nationalization in the Maracaibo Principal Customs on October 17, 2008 in SCM Athina ship, from Houston, Texas (U.S.A), where it was purchased to Rotary Oilfield Drilling Equipment International, Inc. Currently, it is being installed in Petrocabimas location in Zulia state, in order to start the drilling of the first well.

The Consorcio Petrolero Amazonico, integrated by Venezuelan and Ecuadorian companies, chose Suelopetrol as operator of the two fields.
